And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ – to the glory and praise of God. Philippians 1:9-10
Paul’s prayer for the believers expresses what is most important – abounding in love. Love is the thing that makes everything else work the way it’s supposed to. Love is the glue of unity and the grease of efficiency. Love is the lens that helps us to see things as they truly are. If I look at something without my contacts on then to me they are blurry. But in reality the thing I’m looking at doesn’t have fuzzy edges. My view is distorted until I see them through lenses that correct my vision.
Love is that way. Love helps us to see clearly and discern rightly. When my heart is filled with pride or jealously then I can’t truly know something because I’m seeing it in a distorted way. But if my heart is filled with God’s love then I can see people and discern the very best way to love them. I can see circumstances and discern the best path that will lead toward a deeper love for God.
*Dear Lord, you love. It is your nature to love and you can’t help but love. All that you do is loving. Help me to love. Help me to love you so strongly and passionately that people can feel your love for them through the way I treat them. This is what brings you glory and praise! Lord thank you that you are showing me new things and revealing to me the deeper things.
