Many live compartmentalized lives. Weekdays are consumed with the mantra, “Business is Business.”
In the evenings many families have little understanding of the skills and passions used by their breadwinner each day. Sunday comes with the friendliest smile and the most spiritual attitude that can be mustered for church, only to close that chapter Sunday night, so that Monday morning it’s back into the cutthroat business world.
This compartmentalization is also evident in pursuit of ministry. It’s not uncommon to hear from Christian entrepreneurs that they can’t wait to sell their business so they can finally go into the ministry, not recognizing the ministry impact and influence they already have, or should have. Work becomes discounted in value, as if God finds no value in who He created us to be.
Integrity means to be whole or complete, not compartmentalized. Our total life, especially the work God designed us for, is meant to be valuable for God’s purposes.
Exodus 31:1-3 teaches, “Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘See, I have chosen Bezalel…and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, ability, and knowledge in all kinds of crafts.’”
God finds great value in your work! He has blessed you with the skill, ability, and knowledge to excel in your craft, provided you are where He’s called you to be. Excellent work, done within His will, glorifies Him, because He made you.
Maybe you are struggling with your purpose in life, or maybe you’re torn between being in business and being in ministry. Remember, you are ministering to others, if your talent is being done to God’s glory. Regardless if it’s sweeping floors or running a small business, do what God wired you to do. Let the beauty of your work shine.
