A certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, “Your servant my husband is dead… and the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves.” 2 Kings 4:1
In a moment, her promising life turned into a nightmare. The love of her life vanished away. Security and peace were nowhere to be found; pain turned into torment, obligating her to consider the crude reality ahead… widowhood, the worst fear of a woman in ancient times.
What are the common emotions of widowhood? Fear, despair, insecurity, reproach, mixed with the sense of being forsaken and forgotten.
In a similar way, this is the emotional experience of the wounded soul. On the surface everything may look all right, but deep within the cancer of spiritual widowhood is killing the joy and causing all kinds of trouble.
Unaware of divine affections, the person represses the storm inside and plays the game of life, looking for fulfillment and greatness in all the wrong places… calling home what is not home and finding refuge in lesser pleasures.
However, like clockwork, time after time the soul crashes against the wall of disappointment, and, eclipsed by the chronic cycle of shame and guilt sinks deeper into despair.
Of course, some fake it better than others and the game of life continues. But is this the way we were suppose to live? I don’t think so.
It’s time to accept the hidden journey of our souls and have a fresh encounter with our Maker. He has answers… real answers.
For you will forget the shame of your youth and will not remember the reproach of your widowhood. For your Maker is your husband. The Lord of host is His name; and your redeemer is the Holy One of Israel ; He is called the God of the whole earth” Is. 54: 4-5
Only one thing will destroy the lies and heal a wounded soul: encountering the affections of our heavenly Bridegroom and the burning desire of His heart.
When you encounter Jesus as the heavenly bridegroom your emotional makeup begins to change. The fire of His love will heal your soul and empower you to feel and see your whole world in a new light.
Isaiah says that, you will forget the shame of your youth and the reproach of your widowhood. Those two powerful emotions: shame and reproach will no longer control you. And here is why you will forget and be confident: “. . . For your Maker is your husband.” (Is. 54:5).
Confidence will grow as you encounter and know your Maker as your Husband (Is. 54:5). Then, when you continue to believe the truth, and His opinion of you, the fire of God’s love will redefine who you are. After a while, you will notice that your emotional DNA has been rewired… you are not the same anymore.
Therefore, this is the hour to enter the secret place and really know your maker, because your maker is your husband, the God of the whole earth.
